Sinking into Beanbags

There’s nothing better than falling into a giant squishy cushion; Kiwis have loved outdoor beanbags since the dawning of the Chilly-bin era. Perhaps Beanbags have historically been snubbed by designers as ‘not a stylish addition’ or something that only your kids want. In recent years, Hub design have listened and taken on board our client’s desire for an easy, comfortable and (get this) cool Beanbag option.

Queenstown weather tried and tested

Here in Queenstown we have frosty (or snowy) winters and blazing hot summers, so it’s no surprise that an ourdoor Beanbag needs to be durable and weatherproof; not only does the fabric have to be of the highest standard but also the, often overlooked, filler.

Two of our favourite companies bringing fresh designs and high-quality Bean-bag options are Weave and Coast.

Weave

Weave offer a funky design for their New Zealand made outdoor Beanbags; think of a giant floor cushion, large enough to lounge around on at 160cm x 130cm and looks awesome! Weave boast the highest-grade outdoor Warwick Sundeck fabrics and Ecobean filler option made from 100% biodegradable plant material. A sustainably sourced alternative to non-biodegradable petroleum-based foam such as polystyrene.

Colours range from dreamy blues to warm naturals and one particularly nice detail is the 5cm hem. We have these in our design studio, and they need to be snapped up before Carmen takes them home for herself!

Coast

Coast New Zealand offer a wonderful range of Beanbag shapes and styles, including chair-shaped beanbags and matching ottomans; an entire lounge suite can be created entirely out of these ergonomic beanbags. We have used these extensively on our projects around Queenstown and can vouch for their durability and hardiness against our harsh conditions.  Another handy feature for this company is they offer bespoke made beanbags, giving us the ability to alter shapes and styles to fit any type of space, how brilliant is that?

It’s a whole new world of Beanbags out there, you just need to sink into it! Shop Beanbags here https://www.hubdesign.nz/product-category/outdoor/

A deep dive into swimming pool design

A great example of a versatile Interior Designer, how amazing is this Indoor swimming pool design!

Carmen at Hub design is responsible for the Interior Design and project management of this Queenstown home, which includes this beautiful indoor swimming pool. Nestled under an internal bridge walkway with views overlooking lake Wakatipu, this indoor pool provides a sleek and subtle layer of functionality to this family home. The space required practicality and durability in the design to sustain a child-friendly environment which also suits entertaining and relaxing.
Using pops of colour, multi-hued lights and clever furnishings, Carmen was able to create a practical yet alluring pool space which feels cohesive with the rest of the home.

Tiles and lighting

Custom glass mosaic tiles provide depth of colour in a striking multi toned blue, while being low-maintenance and robust in an active and wet area, paired with a neutral matt tile for the flooring.

The entsuite-accessed end of the pool is highlighted with a stunning cluster of suspended pendants with chromed metal structure and borosilicate glass. The outer shade is available in transparent, gold, silver, iridescent, pink-gold, black, white or gold glass. Inner shade is sandblasted. The pool itself is fitted with custom underwater LED lights which change colour using the main controls, adding a touch of ambience and fun to a usually sparse area.

Pool Furniture

The client wanted space saving furniture that was comfortable for the kids but also waterproof and appropriate for indoor and outdoor areas. The River stone Poufs are a great furniture solution because they suit multiple spaces; from children’s bedrooms or bathrooms to terraces or swimming pools. The River stone amazes with its organic shape, 3D skin and soft touch. The modular pouf is made in two different sizes. Made in the material soft touch plus is comfortable, durable, easy to move and waterproof. 100% hygienic, nontoxic, easy to clean and available in a variety of colours. Shop the Riverstone Pouf here https://www.hubdesign.nz/products/riverstone-pouf/

The finished product has led to a happy client with very excited kids will be enjoying this swimming pool area for years to come.

Carmen and the team are more than happy to discuss tiling, furniture, lighting, textile and design options for your indoor/outdoor pool space.

The Spyder

The wonderful Spyder chair has just arrived in our showroom! We have been anxiously awaiting this beauty so we could test her out for ourselves, and this chair is worth the wait! SO comfortable with nice proportions making for a very ergonomic feel.

Hildy at Kovacs is the brilliant mind behind this chair design and many other beautiful pieces all made right here in NZ, it’s great to support our local designers and locally made product.

We wanted a fun pop of colour in our studio so we went for this Misia fabric in Bleu Paon (Misia make some absolutely divine textiles) and it’s great to be able to show off something a little special in our Interior Design Studio.

Now that we have this piece in our Queenstown based studio you’re welcome to come and have a little look, we have hundreds of fabrics to choose from to customise this chair (or any chair mind) to suit your personal style, or go for something a little different!

Arte new release

Introducing the new Artisan collection and Faction, the stunning addition we love. This collection is an ode to high-quality, traditional craftsmanship. The wallcovering is made of pure, natural materials, from minerals and grasses to tropical plants. Experienced artisans’ pleat, weave and dye with boundless passion and patience. They turn these materials by hand into beautiful, unique wallcoverings.

Faction is made of real mica flakes*. The sheets with mica flakes are hand-dyed, after which large, irregular shapes are punched through them. These are carefully inlaid into a repetitive pattern. The pattern is a modern interpretation of the colourful, classic terrazzo floors.

This wall covering is truly something special; unique, tactile with depth of colour which is justly more than a simple wall covering, it’s a lovingly crafted piece of art.

*Mica is an umbrella term for a group of minerals.
